Hi,

I have just replaced the brushes in my Beko washing machine. After putting it all back together, the drum span for a second making a whirring sound then stopped. After that it made a sound every 5 seconds like it was trying to start a spin again but failed to move.

Also, turning the drum by hand makes an unusual whirring sound.

I have had the machine on its side to do the repair.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks.

New brushes usually make a louder noise when the drum turns until they bed in so the whirring noise could just be the new brushes. But make sure they are fitted properly, and all the surface of the new brush is running against the commutator. If it ran OK for a few seconds it could be a poor connection somewhere on the motor connector block or elsewhere, but it could be a problem with the main pcb or elsewhere. Check out this article - fitted new brushes but motor making strange noise or sparking

How sure are you that the old brushes were the cause of your current fault? If one of them was charred and black fair enough, but if they just looked won down but both brushes were shiny where they run on the commutator they were probably still working OK (even though they may have been ready for replacing). Check out this guide on my main site Washing machine drum not turning

If you still have a problem I would suggest getting an engineer in, it's just a bad idea to start buying expensive parts such as motors and pcb's purely guessing that they might be the problem - Appliance engineers advertising on Washerhelp
