I have a Siemens washing machine that has worked perfectly since we acquired it when we moved into our property a couple of years ago. Today my wife was doing the same wash we always do when she noticed that the drum hadn't drained properly at the end of a wash and the standing water (which is still there) was a strong blue in colour. She went to the machine immediately after it had finished. Although the sheets were blue, they have been washed countless times before and had never run. Nor is our detergent or fabric conditioner blue - a mystery!

I've tried the machine and the drum rotates but there does not seem to be water coming into it when a cycle is started. Plus it is not draining the water that is in there already and this water smells very strong, but not a nice smell, more of a chemical smell - although this could be the detergent/conditioner that is causing this(?).

I'm confident enough to unplug it and have a look myself, but through searching the advice pages here I'm not certain of the best elimination approach as it seems to be two issues: both water coming in and drainage of existing water. The 'empty' function starts (on the electronic control panel the time ticks down) but does nothing.

May I ask for your kind advice on what steps to take please? I've attached some images if that helps?

I would follow these steps to drain the water and then check the pump and/or filter for obstructions - Washing machine won't empty water (stuck full of water)
