Shrug Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Hey, i am in the process off buying a new washing machine and i was thinking if there is any British manufactures that still make washing machines, as i might as well gave my money to the British economy than to some far eastern one. If anyone know off any please let me know Thanks Shrug
JetSystem Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Hello there, Sadly, there are no washing machines made in Britain anymore. I believe the last machines to be made here were Hotpoint WMA machines, but after Hotpoint was taken over by Indesit in 2007, the production of Hotpoint washers has now moved to the companies main plant in Italy. I believe the only appliances made in the UK anymore are Hotpoint and Indesit vented dryers (which are made at the former Hotpoint factory) and White Knight dryers (which are made at the Crosslee factory in Halifax)
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp Posted October 12, 2023 Root Admin Posted October 12, 2023 There is now a company called Ebac who are the only British manufacturer of washing machines. Andy D Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 UPDATE./ EBAC washing machines made in UK just outside Sunny Durham. About 700 quid but with a 7 year warranty which makes them far more better value than a Miele special. Google EBAC and all should be revieled. Apparently they did not get a very good wash report from WHICH mainly because they tested the model without the button pressed in for normal washing rather than light soiled load and that counted against the machine in that true, as only WHICH knows how, conclusion but neglected to tell that was why......so unfairly tested. With WHICH I truly do despair: many Moons ago in the 1980s they tested the Indesit 823 and critized blatantly it; it ended up for 200 quid being at that time their best selling washing machine which was very reliable with few common faults.........something pretty rare in that era for Indesit so not to be out done the next model series was a disaster which got a good report from WHICH!!!
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp Posted January 8 Root Admin Posted January 8 Hi. Yes I was told that by Ebac too. Unfortunately, appliances need to be designed with Which? tests in mind and it seems like Ebac designed for the customer. It shouldn't be necessary but a poor review from Which? is a disaster. Especially for a company like Ebac. I would guess that most people considering an Ebac are likely to be discerning and intelligent customers. Exactly the type of customer that would consult Which?
