Hi all,

Firstly invaluable website, many thanks, secondly onto the question.

I currently have an integrated washing machine and it is now time to replace her, not particularly looking for a washer dryer combo. My budget can stretch to £500ish, I have been looking around different sites and came up with a few alternatives,

Smeg WMI16AAA - £502 - AAA - 1600rpm - 5kg load capacity - 1yr warranty parts and labour

AEG L14510VI - £497 - A+A- 1400rpm - 5kg load capacity - 1yr warranty parts and labour -

Baumatic BTWM6 - £419 - AAB - 1300rpm - 6kg load capacity - 2yrs warranty parts and labour, extended to 5 years parts

Benk BKWM60Fi - £349 - ABB - 1100rpm - 5kg load capacity - 2yrs warranty parts and labour

Siemens WXLI1240GB - £546 - 1200rpm - 6kg load capacity - 2yrs warranty parts and labour

Now comes the second part of the question. I can also go for a freestanding washing machine however Mrs Partytime doesn't want a white machine. I have stumble across these options which i can't seem to find any reliability information on.

Maytag MAF9501AES - £447 - AAB - 1400rpm - 6kg load capacity- 2yrs warranty parts and labour, extended to 5 years

Smeg WMF16AXS - £378 - AAA - 1600rpm - 5kg load capacity - 1yr warranty parts and labour

Siemens WM12E44SGB - £588 - 1200rpm - 6kg load capacity - 2yrs warranty parts and labour

Any help would be greatly appreciated, had a look around the site and not much info on most of the above companies. Please washerhelp lend me some knowledge.

Thank you for your time

Smeg are Italian, they are more well known for their fridges and are relatively new in the washing machine market.

AEG are decent washing machines although not the AEG of old.

Baumatic are relatively new to the UK and little is known about them. Spares can be slow to obtain.

Benk? Not heard of them so I'd naturally discount them. They look like they are badged up from another manufacturer.

Siemens are the best quality washing machine on your list, they are the upper quality range of the Bosch group. I personally would buy the Siemens washing machine out of that list.

I don't like built in washing machines. It can be difficult and time-consuming to get them out to repair, sometimes extremely hard if not installed properly. It's also a problem trying not to damage kitchen units and flooring as well as trying to get them back flush and to the customer's satisfaction after repair. Spares can also be more difficult to obtain and more expensive. Consequently some independent repairers won't come out to look at them. However, plenty of people have them.

Maytag are American and again not long established in the UK which can affect servicing. They should be good quality though.

With a budget of £500 I'd also consider -

  • Miele washing machines (probably the best quality washing machine in the UK although the £500 will go much more on build quality rather than fancy features. At least a 2 and sometimes 5 year guarantee with 10 year guarantees on more expensive models)
  • ISE washing machine (Promises to be more repairable and lots of tech support, easy to get reasonable price spares for and a 5 year guarantee)
  • More washing machine reviews Washing machine reviews
