Hi

I own a Miele W916 washing machine and am sick of paying out for a service engineer to unblock the INTERNAL filter. Sometimes I am charged 100 GBP for 10 mins work to simply remove a button or a 2p coin from the INTERNAL FILTER!!! There is an external access filter AND AN INTERNAL ONE. I have an electrician friend who said he would take a look. Does anyone know how to access the internal filter ?

Cheers Dirool

Calling out most manufacturers is now ridiculously expensive. Even many cheap washing machine manufacturers charge around the £90 mark. If a washing machine’s only cost £200 to buy this is totally unacceptable. Even with an expensive washing machine like a Miele its way too high although it's a much smaller percentage of a replacement cost.

I’d recommend trying to find an independent repair company or sole trader in your area although they are becoming increasingly rare. This link displays several appliance repairers on Whitegoodshelp - Find a washing machine repairer. Miele though are one of the makes that many independents don’t repair but it’s worth a look as they can be a lot cheaper than the manufacturer.

I’m not aware of any internal filter protecting the pump. Any coin should end up in the pump filter at the front where you can access it yourself. Have you seen where the engineer finds this filter? The only other place I can imagine one is inside the sump hose which leads to the water pump, but with a proper filter built into the machine at the front it should be unnecessary to have one in the sump hose as well. The problem is that most customers can't get to it, and with a built in filter specially for customers to clean already present - that's frustrating.

Hi

Thanks for your help. I have seen the Miele engineer on at least 4 occasions gain access with a screwdriver to an area actually inside the machine to retrieve objects. It has never taken him more than 10 mins if that. I agree with you, what is the point in having a filter that you cannot gain access to? I do think it's worth at least having a quick look without messing with any controls etc.

I'm looking further into it at the moment, if I find anything out I'll post it for you. BTW, what are you doing letting coins get inside such an expensive washing machine?

As I surmised, it must be inside the sump hose leading to the pump.
