I've got really decent prices quoted for either a Miele W1613 and a W3224. The difference in price is £110 extra for the W3324. I believe the only difference is the honetcomb drum. Is it worth an extra £110 or a gimic I can do without.

I have a little piece on the The Miele honeycomb drum from my review of the Miele W3740 washing machine. I would say it's clearly not essential, otherwise all Miele washing machines would have it. It's an optional extra and is meant to be more gentle on laundry. Miele say there is virtually no penetration of fabric through the holes in the drum. "Normal" drums have more numerous and larger holes so fabric (especially cotton) gets forced through the holes on high spin. This can make it more likely for parts of laundry to snag on something, especially if there's an obstruction inside the outer tub. I'm sure there's absolutely nothing worng with the normal Miele drum though, so it's down to deciding if you think it's worth paying the extra for.
