Recommended Washing Machine Makes Under £249

Recommended Posts

I only have £249 max to spend on a washer, I'm hoping to only spend £200 which really

limits my choices but I can't afford any more. I also can't shop online (I use the local library and would never trust their security).

are there any recommendations - which brand/model should I look at or avoid?

thanks

Hello Shaz: I would avoid all at that price range except Bosch and maybe Zanussi.

shame cos I had a zanussi once and it was great, lasted years.

If you have a local John Lewis department I would try to buy one there. They do stock a few cheap washing machines. I can't recommend cheap washing machines but at least if you buy from John Lewis you will benefit from two extra things -

1: All washing machines bought from John Lewis come with a minimum of 2 years guarantee. John Lewis branded washing machines have a 3 year guarantee. As it's not impossible for a cheap washing machine to be scrap after less than 2 years the extra guarantee gives a little more reassurance. (By the way if any washing machine is scrap after less than 2 years you should complain to who you bought it from under the Sale of Goods Act)
2: John Lewis have regularly been voted Britain's favourite retailer. I believe you are more likely to get good customer service and even redress under the Sale of Goods Act from John Lewis than any other place.

John Lewis washing machine section (2 year minimum guarantees)

John Lewis Brand washing machines (3 year guarantees)

Personslly, I'd avoid the following:

Hoover/Candy (same company), Hotpoint/Indesit (also same company) and Haier. My experience of Beko have always been ok, especially for the price and certainly better than anything else in the price range, but they do have long cycle times. The current range, however, have a daily 1 hour cycle with variable temp that seems ok. Don't expect anything brilliant, but for an average washer they seem to be ok.
