What is this part & is it crucial?!

Have just found this next to my washing machine, is it part of it? Hoping not, but if it is, is it vital? See pic.

It looks like it could be part of the original transit packaging. If you want to be sure pull the washing machine out and see if there are holes in the back where it would fit inside.
