I saw it suggested on a frugal living site to wash clothes with vinegar instead of detergent in the machine. Will it damage the machine to use it on a daily basis? I know it is good to use vinegar every month or so to keep limescale under control etc. We have hard or very hard water if it makes a difference. Thanks!

Hello. I wouldn't say don't use the distilled white vinegar as a supplement but  you don't need vinegar to control limescale. That's what washing machine detergent does (Limescale In Washing Machines). If people have a limescale problem it's because they don't use enough detergent. Cutting down on detergent to save money or because of a belief that they want us to use more than you need is likely to result in a damaging build up of slime and grease and limescale inside. It can take a lot of years though. Get rid of washing machine smells: Causes of grease, slime and black mould inside washing machines
