1 pointok i've stripped the motor down and it looks like a wire running from the main plug on the motor to the motor housing got caught on the rotor, cut the outer sheath then arced. i've cleaned it all up, replace the wire, checked for damage, performed a continuity test on the motor and all seems ok. I'll test it tonight and see if it works ok.
