My 10 year old Hoover AC134 built-in is now tripping out persistently. It used to happen occasionally at certain sections of the programme but now it happens at any stage. What do I need to fix this problem and where can I obtain the part(s)

For about 3 years and on several occasions, some items of clothing have been damaged after a wash cycle on No 4 (not-fast coloureds). I have checked the washing machine thoroughly but could not find any defects other than a few coins in the water pump outlet. The last time this happened a woolen top had been sucked into the small drum holes, and tore when removed. Also I have noticed white residues on the clothes which we cannot explain as we use liquid washing agents. Any advice would be welcome.

My washing machine seems to be leaking from behind a lump of concrete which I guess is used to balance the drum. I can't see why it should start leaking from here but the concrete is wet and lines up roughly with the wet spot on the floor. Can you tell me what might be causing this leak and how I can fix it (if indeed I can).

I've a problem with a washing machine that seems to have appeared and would greatly appreciate some advice before I get too frustrated! The washing machine has started making a rattling noise when the water drains out, and the noise seems to be coming from the drain pump. It sounds very unhealthy like a coin or screw in the pump. I can reproduce the noise by setting the machine to programme 13 which is the cycle for pumping out the rinsing water. Any suggestions on how to go about finding out what the problem is?

My washing machine was doing a normal load last night, and there was a loud bang. The washing machine was still half full of water & it is now completely dead. No power to it at all. I've checked all of the fuses, in the mains socket & also the washing machine plug and they are all working fine.

Excellent advice I've seen so far but can you give me a few direct pointers to try and resolve my problem? The washing machine is about 12 yrs old. On the 3rd wash today the wife noticed the clothes were still sopping wet. The water had pumped out, but the motor had not driven the wash or spin cycles. The belt is fine. What should I look at next? If I take the motor off and check the brushes will it be immediately obvious that they are faulty? Is it likely there is a power supply failure to the motor, should I check the feed to the motor with an AVO? What pins/sockets should I check and what value should it be? If the power supply and the brushes are good can I do any …

I have a washing machine which had two coins stuck in the sump, which caused the water to not drain away during spin etc. I fixed this by placing the machine on it's side to get access to the bottom. Removed and assembled the machine and now the dum won't turn. I looked at the motor again and it visually looks OK. Noting else seems to be a problem. I can only think the pressure switche is something to do with this. Can you explain how the pressure switch works and what it does? Thanks

My washer makes an awful grinding noise which seems to occur when it is draining the water. I thought, when I first heard this noise that it was coming from the pump. So I presumed that it may have been caused by something that had got inside the pump. Yet I've had the pump off and the filter compartment and as yet have find no foreign object.

My wife complained of an intermittent fault on our washing machine, whereby the clothes were wet on removal from the machine. Mrs G. explained that it only happens if the washing machine is left to run overnight . So now Im suspecting the inlet valves. I dried the whole area around the detergent drawer and within a few minutes detected a drip !! So it cant be anything else other than the valves, right? Also Ive often wondered why the hot water pipe never gets warm during a fill. Does this machine take in cold water only and heat it? Or does it only use the hot supply for high temperature washes? Sorry for the long post. Great web site and very useful !!

Washing works fine on this machine, but after an 80 minute drying cycle the clothes come out steaming but still wet. This is with only a small load in the drum. The heating element is working, and I can hear the air pump moving as well. I've already cleaned out the plastic condensing chamber and grill in the back of the drum, so I assumed it was a water solenoid problem with the condensing water flow (similar to another thread in this forum). The flow is only for about 30 seconds, then it stops for about 1 minute. Then the cycle repeats. Surely it should it perhaps flow constantly to allow for better condensation? Thanks.

Hi, the door of my washing machine wont release after the cycle has completed. It spins fast and seems OK in every other respect. I think something blew either in the washer or the microwave as it blew the fuse for that circuit. The light on the door catch stays on - turning the power off of setting it to another point on the dial has no effect. Any suggestions as it's full of clothes and heavy to move and I need to get them out.

My washing machine doesn't drain after cycle so I went to look at the filter. Behind the trim on lower part of face of machine, I found what I presume is access to the filter. But, but it only turns through 120 degrees (with loss of some water) but I could not remove it. I have lost the user manual (to my shame) and can't find it online. Does this washerl have a filter which can be accessed by and cleaned by an owner? If so how do I open the filter? Many thanks for any help offered.

Even on a minimum temperature wash, the glass door becomes so hot that you can't touch it. At one point when doing a 30 degree wash, there was steam coming out of the powder drawer which caused the drawer front to buckle slightly with the heat. Is this the thermostat, and if so, is it easy to replace?

Over the last few months the washing machine has been taking over 3 hours to complete full wash cycles even on the short wash. -i.e upto 3 times as long as normal. I think the water filters are OK and I don't think the pump is blocked either. Any ideas on possible solutions please?

I have a four year old washing machine. My problem is that if the machine is left idle for over 12 hours, it is frequently filling with foul water. I suspect that there may be a blockage somewhere related to lint & dog hair, so my question is; Where is the blockage likely to be, and can I access it? Are there any other likely causes for the "back-filling"?

I am glad to find this site! My situation is: I have just moved into a new apartment and the washer has a bad odor that smells like rotten something? My brother says this can happen because the washer is old and residue from mold and soap builds up in the tub that holds the tub you put clothes in. Also, if you look on the top of the tub and move it around and look down the sides, it is gross and VERY grimey. I have washed bleach loads and left the lid open to air out the smell but it still reeks. My questions are... What is causing the problem? How can it be solved? Is this washer healthy to be using?

My washing machine has recently started making a *VERY* loud noise, and vibrating violently on fast spin. I took a look over the weekend and the top and bottom concrete blocks were secure, as were the dampers. On the next wash, all was good, i.e. normal noise and vibration. My wife used it again today and the problem re-appeared. The noise is uncomfortably loud in the kitchen, and sounds like a heavy metallic knocking (hard to describe noises, I know!).The clothes came out covered in black marks, and on opening up the machine this evening, the top is covered in a grey dust, I think this is carbon dust from the brushes as there is a concentrated area on the underside of …

I just need some advice please I have a WM52 1000 spin and I think something has gone through the holes in the drum as when the drum is going round I can hear something catching. How easy is it to get it out and if it is left in there could it cause any damage?

I have an old washing machine and I think I probably overloaded it a bit a few weeks ago as the drive belt snapped. I bought a new drive belt, fitted it, put the washing machine on a spin and the belt promptly snapped again. Is there anything I should be aware of when fitting a new drive belt? Do I need to move the motor? Thanks for any help you can give.

The other day my washing machine stopped mid-programme and has refused to do anything since. The on / off switch also appears to have become jammed. I have checked the fuse and that's fine. Any ideas what can be done? Unfortunately this is very frustrating as there are clothes sitting in a pool of water in the drum and the door is still locked. Is there any way I can at least get the door open to remove the clothing?

OK the problem is, small items of clothing, ie childrens socks seem to manage to get behind the drum, I reckon they go through the gap between the door seal and the drum itself, is there a fix for this or do I just bin it and get a better one ?

Some of the clothes come out as if they are bleached and all patchy, could this be a fault on the washing machine or the washing powder?
