This is because most faults are not specific to a brand. Most faults and fixes are the same for all washing machines. Splitting faults up into different brans causes much duplication and fragmentation of answers

As luck would have it, our 12 year old Zanussi Jetsystem decided to violently announce its sickness a few days before we went away, making a serious banging sound on fast spin. my wife had Premier Electric out and they changed the hole-y drive belt, but a few days later, it happened again, this time a bit more terminally. After taking some part-washed items to some friends for rinsing and spinning , we had a closer look and suspected the bearings, since the drum was scraping around on the tub. When we got back, we paid a visit to John Lewis to look at some Bosches and Siemens. I'd spent some time on this website beforehand, as I always like to know more than the sales …

A quick question.....In addition to the handbook literature and spanner that came with my new 1714, there was a metallic adaptor. I think it's a non return valve which threads on to my stopcock cold tap and the water inlet pipe threads onto the other end. Does this item need to be fitted? My old washer just had the water inlet pipes (hot + cold) attached directly to the taps. I have fitted this item but I did not put PTFE tape round the stopcock thread. In other words I have threaded metal to metal. The inlet pipe has a plastic thread. Should PTFE tape be used in this situation? Apologies in advance if this sounds stupid.........but I don't want to wreck a 700 quid m…

Miele have two designs of machine. One I call the "New Improved". The second "Original". What design do you prefer? For me I don't think I can never tire of the Original design and this would sway me to a machine in this style over the new lineup. It's the polishable chrome of even shape and classic control fascia with the illuminated "orange eclipse" control knob that melts my heart every time! ;o)

My wife and I have narrowed the huge array of options for washing machines to Miele. This is mainly for the reliability, water and power efficiency of the machines. My wife is concerned that as we are getting a bit older and that the machines are designed for at least 20 years life expectancy, how do we raise the machine to ease the stress on our aging bones and muscles. Is it possible to do, will it effect the warrantee? TIA Roddles

Many thanks for all the useful information posted on this site that helped us to make up our minds in the purchase of a new machine. We decided on the Miele W3240 complete with its 10 year parts and labour guarantee. Having mentioned considering a Siemens WIQ 1435 on viewing we saw that this did not the metal outer drum of the Miele. Comparing prices since before Christmas it was noticed that Currys/Dixons/Comet had reduced their prices to compete with other internet traders. They all did not seem to have any on display locally,( is it morally right to go look at a product in a local store but purchase cheaper on line elsewhere), could open another forum on that. Anywa…

For those who have registered for the FREE Miele 10 year warranty, (currently underwritten by Domestic & General Services Ltd) do you get any confirmation that they have processed it? It would be helpful if you state which approximate year you registered (so I can tell if it was 9 years ago or 1 year ago) I'm about to send it off via a recordable/trackable method, and was wondering if you get some sort of paperwork back, perhaps a simple welcome and policy booklet?

Thinking of a Miele W1512 as a replacement but very irritatingly the door is hinged on the wrong side restricting access in our utlity room. Also the drum is small compared to most machines and it doesn't appear to have a delay start. The AEG L64810 which was tested by Which? to have the same clean/rinse/dry/noise/ performance and running costs as the W1512, has a bigger 6KG drum, door opens on the correct side and has a delay start. Bad point is it looks plain ugly compared to the Miele and is not that much cheaper (Miele is about £430 for me and the AEG is about £380) Which one?

Are all miele machines right-hand opening only? Having read the reviews and advice on your site I had persuaded myself to invest in one however since the machine goes in a cupboard under the stairs (hinged on the right) I need my machine to be hinged on the left.

All, (I'm hoping this isn't a repair question) I think 'something' has got between the Drums & I want to take the element out to have a look, does anyone have a source for the 'starlock' retaining clips? from experience no matter how careful you are one of them can get damaged & I'd like a couple to hand before I start! Cheers Jim.

I'm hoping to buy my first ever washing machine!! how exciting! After reading about lots of different things i think i'm going to splash out and buy the Miele W1714. My only quesiton is about the warranty...i seen a lot of bnater about 10 year and 5 year warranties, but when i look at buying the machine no site mentions it. What's the crack? Is it a limited period offer? If so, does anyone have any inside info as to when Miele may offer this again? Ta Rob

Hello My washing machine has given up the ghost after 4 and a half years, and has now been written off by the insurance company (after a lot of trouble). The machine is a Candy and first went wrong about 2 years ago (luckily I had taken out an extended warranty). Over the past 4 months I have been without a washing machine for about 12 weeks in all (2 breakdowns) - waiting for the service engineer to visit, decide what was wrong, order parts, wait for parts and then organising someone to be in the house all day to wait for the part to be fitted. Finally, the engineer and insurers have decided to write it off and I am trying to decide which machine to buy. I am extr…

I can’t engage twin dos as each time I try I get the message replace cartridge 2. However that cartridge is full. Have tried reinserting several times, turned machine off and on , all with no luck. Tried to run maintenance programme but get same problem when told to insert cartridge into compartment 2 - it doesn’t recognise that the cartridge is inserted. any ideas gratefully received.

I've recently bought a TwinDos washer and don't expect to continue using the genuine Miele Phase 1 & 2 detergents due to cost, so was thinking about filling them with my own. I've read it's possible, but wondered what people's experiences were like? Does the system behave well using non-Miele detergents? One of my concerns is the system will clog up and not perform well and any issues in the future will be greeted by Miele with 'not covered under warranty as you haven't been using our detergents'.

I have been a happy user of this system except everything comes out wrinkled. Mostly cottons. Linens are a disaster. I am ironing more than i ever wanted. I have dried the garment and put it in the steamer but this is a 2 step process and doesn't always work. Miele says to set the washer drum on a slower setting, but then the clothes come out too wet and takes forever to dry. I thought about taking the wet garment from straight from the washer and and put it on the steamer setting. Does anyone have any solutions for wrinkle free clothing? thanks, Karen

Well after trolling many websites and reading what seemed like hundreds of reviews and a lot of reviews from these forums and website, we decided for sure on a Miele. We were going to get the W3740 but nowhere seemed to have one in stock. We needed to ditch our old Indesit quickly due to constant break downs and with having a baby in tow, living without a washing machine was a no brainer. So looking at Buywise of Banbury * Official Miele Stockist (just up the road from us) we saw they were very well priced. We saw the W1714 for £589.00 and at that price who were we to argue As you can see it has very clean lines and we were very impressed when it arrived. Th…

could anyone tell me if it is correct that the model w3240 has finished being made, and should this make any differance in buying one as shops still have them stock and are including 10yrs warranty. dave

I've had my W3240 for a few weeks now and thought I'd post back some thoughts. I had a 15 year old AEG with a 900 spin speed, still working but often erratic. I had particularly wanted a faster spin to save on drying costs and because we're trying to cut energy usage wherever we can. I can't honestly say I've noticed the clothes spun at top speed being any drier than they were at 900. So I wouldn't pay a premium to get a faster spin speed (say 1400 over 1200) again - I think this agrees with Andy's advice in general. I like having a bigger drum, and the machine feels really well built and is very quiet. It is however as lots of people have said HEAVY. I'm finding t…

So, I have finally got the money together (£800 to £1100) and think it is the right time to ask the more important question as I have got the message that it should be Miele. Which one should it be? I have been looking at the new style W4449 as I like all new technology - I get attracted to LEDs and it has a big door. The W3844 WPS seems a more traditional option with possibly more of a robust constitution - in my experience traditional/older styles are better made than anything that is modern/wizzy, not that this knowledge makes me shy away from new technology but just accepting of shorter lives and disposability. Then the question became, as I use the eco friendly g…

My much loved w980 miele washer has just gone seriously wrong for the first time in the 10+ years I have had it. Ive done all the usual things (cleaned the filter, cleaned dispenser tray etc, and checked the drain), but it's not happy so first thing in the morning I will getting onto the Miele service dept. Has any one else had any problems with a machine of this age? I have to say that despite this hiccup and the potential cost I still think that the £1100 I spent on this machine was best money ever spent; My poor old machine does anything between 7 and 20 loads a week and we live in North Norfolk where the water ishard beyond belief (most appliences just commit su…

hi all I managed to get myself a Miele washer/dryer WT2670 at a fabulously low price because one of the feet is missing. I've been through the parts sites listed here plus a couple of others I found. They didn't have the feet listed so I left a request with them, but haven't had a reply from them since (7 days) and the machine arrives next Sunday. I'm thinking a foot missing is a major problem right from the start I went to a local store and had a look at the feet on the same model and they were exactly the same as a couple of different brands of machine. I'm wondering if my best option, and with time running out before the machine arrives, is to find a repair sho…

I need a new washer and my choice is between the W1714 and the W3240. However, like the previous poster, my washer location is in a purpose built cupboard in the right hand corner of the room. I estimate that the door of the W1714 will open to 90 degrees from the shut position (a 44cm diameter door positioned 6 cm in from edge) and the W3240 should open to around 110 degrees from shut ( a 39.5 cm door, 9 cm in from edge). Does anyone have experience of a Miele up against a right hand wall (!!!! ) and will the fact that the door cannot open beyond 90 to 110 degrees be a problem? Thanks

well was thinking of going out next week to buy the w3740 however just read the manual on the miele site and they say that they do not recommend the use of installed water softeners - we have one of these and have always used it with our other washing machines therefore we don't get any lime scale etc - does anyone know why miele don't recommend them ?.. dave

As the Miele are about 93Kg, can one be slid under a worksurface or put on chipboard and then slid under? Are there any decent wheels or rollers to use? It is a tiled floor as well, so I wonder wherther the tiles would crack under the load, probably not on chipboard? I just wonder how realistic it is to buy S/H and to be able to move it in an estate car, probably not easy?
