Miele washing machines
- This forum is for anything to do with Miele washing machines - BUT NOT repairs
- All repair questions need to be in the following forum - UK Washing Machine Repair Questions
This is because most faults are not specific to a brand. Most faults and fixes are the same for all washing machines. Splitting faults up into different brans causes much duplication and fragmentation of answers

I take recommending specific washing machines very seriously. I currently recommend Miele washing machines as probably the best washing machines available in the UK. As part of my commitment to giving good advice I have opened this special forum up for you to give feedback on, and ask questions about anything related to buying a Miele washing machine. If you buy any washing machine recommended by Washerhelp I will try to give help and support, especially if you buy through a Washerhelp link which can help keep the site running. Please post your opinion of the washing machine, any questions you may have prior to buying one and even any problems you may encounter after…

Hi, I am considering purchasing a Miele W3240 (£668 from Dixons) which is currently part of the 10yr warranty promotion. This promotion ends on the 28th of February, so I am wondering if I should rush to buy before the deal expires, or will it come round again soon enough? Our current machine is an incredibly noisy 8yr old Hoover Soft Wave 1100 which refuses to die. This backs onto a room which will soon become a nursery for our first child ( due July 30th). So we would like to replace the Hoover before this date with something quieter. What's the chance of the 10 year Miele promotion being back on before then ? Or can I put up with the Hoover for a while long…

Can anyone advise how quiet these two machines are, Miele’s website only gives insulation levels not decibels. We are comparing these with Siemens similar priced machines and they give decibel levels on their site. Both manufacturers are offering 10 year guarantees on various models (offer expires end Jan (Siemens) and end Feb (Miele) Have tried Kelko for comparisons on noise but these models didn’t appear to be listed. Any information would be greatly appreciated on the above and comparisons of build quality. Many thanks.

Are all miele machines right-hand opening only? Having read the reviews and advice on your site I had persuaded myself to invest in one however since the machine goes in a cupboard under the stairs (hinged on the right) I need my machine to be hinged on the left.

Hi, I've read a lot of useful information on this forum so firstly thanks! However I'm still having trouble deciding between buying a Miele washer/dryer over and a Bosch. Here's my reservation: 1. According to this new report from Which? Bosch are only 1% different from Miele in terms of reliability (92% versus 93% respectively): 2. Engineer call-out fees are more or less the same for the two brands: 3. Parts for the Miele are likely to be more expensive: 4. I'm not going to buy an extended warranty because I don't believe they are cheaper in the end: 5. Therefore I'm going to be paying repair bills myself after 1 year because Miele are not offering a 5 year warrant…

I urgently need a new washing machine. In the past I have only spent about £350 on one so spending £700-£800 I really dont want to make a mistake, especially as its going to last me 20 yrs (hopefully). These two models seem to have very similar features the only difference being the brushless silent professional motor on the W4144 and the waterproof system (which you explained about on a previous post). The noise of the machine isn't an issue to me as it will be located away from the main living area of the house. My question really is about the motor being brushless. Is this much better? In the past had a costly experience with a hoover washing machine (only lasted…

Hi, I've read some of the reviews on the washer help site and did a search for 'cheap Miele washing machine' and this one came up. Does anyone have any experience with this machine? It looks kind of basic but I like the idea of that because that means I'll probabaly be able to work it and less chance of stuff breaking down. It includes 5 year Miele warranty and UK mainland delivery. Konrad

Does anyone have a rough idea of its weight as I need to arrange delivery of one. I am guessing around 70kg-90kg???? The Miele website doesnt list the weights! Thanks

Hi A newby here and I have narrowed down my next purchase to be a Miele washing machine, due to the build quality and the quietness. However, I am intriged to know, as I am still will to be pursuaded, that as a requirement I would like to be able to wash a king size duvet/dog bed/large items rather than take them to the local launderette (@ £13 a pop!). Can any of the Miele washing machines wash these? If so, which ones, if not, which other makes/models can? Looking forward to any advice.

I have taken delivery of a W2209i washing machine which I am thrilled with. The wash quality is excellent and itr is so quiet. BUT I am not sure about the drain filter. Today I iopened it for the first time and it poured water all over the floor. It does not look like any drain filter that I have seen before, cannot see any mesh or anything to clean. Can anyone help me please?

well was thinking of going out next week to buy the w3740 however just read the manual on the miele site and they say that they do not recommend the use of installed water softeners - we have one of these and have always used it with our other washing machines therefore we don't get any lime scale etc - does anyone know why miele don't recommend them ?.. dave

As I mentioned in my first post I've justhad first ever problem with my W980 mile washing machine. I would'nt be a bit surprised if the engineer says death by limescale. We moved to North Norfolk about 5 years ago and the water is hurrendous, even compared to Norwich. I use the Tesco limescale prevention tablets every wash and oko magnet ball thingy as well. I was wondering if there's anything else I could or should be doing ? I noticed last night when reading through the intruction manual for the W980 that I have been putting the limescale tab and washig tablets thingys in the wrong order , aprently meile say detergent first lime scale treatment next. Ive bought acou…

Hi Washerhelp - I'm a returning member, but, as ever, a great site. Looking to get a new washer. Probably a Miele, based on what I've read at Washerhelp. Was interested in the LG direct drive system, but sort of gone cool on it after reading your review. (Not to say that it is a bad product, of course...) Just wondering if Miele has an out of balance spin function? When I went into my local supplier to talk about getting a new washer, this out of balance issue came up. He said he has a Miele but there are still times when it gets out of balance. Seems like there is no getting away from it. Anyway any advice (or thread you could point me to) would be appreciated. …

Can you help? We invested in a Miele washing machine while living in Germany and brought it back to the UK with us four years ago. It is only 6 years old and is broken. A reliable repair man thinks it is either the motor or the board. I have found out from Miele that their service man charges a £90 call out fee, a new motor would cost £295 + call out + VAT and a new board £426 ++. I am so annoyed and frustrated at having spent £1000 on a wahing machine that is no better than a cheap throw-away. Any advice?

My much loved w980 miele washer has just gone seriously wrong for the first time in the 10+ years I have had it. Ive done all the usual things (cleaned the filter, cleaned dispenser tray etc, and checked the drain), but it's not happy so first thing in the morning I will getting onto the Miele service dept. Has any one else had any problems with a machine of this age? I have to say that despite this hiccup and the potential cost I still think that the £1100 I spent on this machine was best money ever spent; My poor old machine does anything between 7 and 20 loads a week and we live in North Norfolk where the water ishard beyond belief (most appliences just commit su…

I'm hoping to buy my first ever washing machine!! how exciting! After reading about lots of different things i think i'm going to splash out and buy the Miele W1714. My only quesiton is about the warranty...i seen a lot of bnater about 10 year and 5 year warranties, but when i look at buying the machine no site mentions it. What's the crack? Is it a limited period offer? If so, does anyone have any inside info as to when Miele may offer this again? Ta Rob

As a new member of Washerhelp my wife and I are looking for some guidance. Having had a variety of washing machines over the years, non of which were particularly reliable except for a very basic Indesit we bought about 40 years back which lasted about 16 years, 6 of which were washing for a new baby. We have finally decided on a Miele but can't decide on which one. The W3922 & W3824 both seem to fit the bill but I am tempted by the Professional motor and the load size/ dispensing on the W3922, however it does seem to have bells and whistles that we don't need. It seems that the W3824 might be a later addition to the range and looks simpler to use. The program that…

Thinking of a Miele W1512 as a replacement but very irritatingly the door is hinged on the wrong side restricting access in our utlity room. Also the drum is small compared to most machines and it doesn't appear to have a delay start. The AEG L64810 which was tested by Which? to have the same clean/rinse/dry/noise/ performance and running costs as the W1512, has a bigger 6KG drum, door opens on the correct side and has a delay start. Bad point is it looks plain ugly compared to the Miele and is not that much cheaper (Miele is about £430 for me and the AEG is about £380) Which one?

Miele W3240 Vs Philips Elite 2005 Vs 1985 (approx years of technology) Bought Miele in 2007, Philips in 1986 OK, to give you some perspective, the Philips is from an age when new cars roamed around on our streets on B or C plates, and before most people had a PC with anything Microsoft on it. Obviously the Miele is a much quieter machine, and in normal operation is barely audible, the noisest element being the water and clothes slotching around in the drum. The pump doesn't appear to be much quieter though. When the Miele is compared to modern machines I have seen and heard like my mother in laws Hotpoint, the difference doesn't appear to be so apparent which is a…

My wife and I have narrowed the huge array of options for washing machines to Miele. This is mainly for the reliability, water and power efficiency of the machines. My wife is concerned that as we are getting a bit older and that the machines are designed for at least 20 years life expectancy, how do we raise the machine to ease the stress on our aging bones and muscles. Is it possible to do, will it effect the warrantee? TIA Roddles

I am currently the proud owner of a Miele W 3740 washing machine. Look out for a big review of it soon (I'll post a link here when it's ready) In the mean time anyone interested in buying a Miele W 3740 should be aware that many sites say there is a 24 hour delay start function on this washing machine and there definitely isn't. The Miele site now has the corrected version of the specifications but many retailing sites have copied this erroneous fact and still display it. Edit Here is the review - Miele W 3740 review

Hi all, I'm thinking about buying the Miele Prem 520. I like the look of this and my budget can just about stretch to the 499.95 price tag. Miele seem to be a good quality manufacturer - even though I'm getting one at the lower end of the Miele scale, would the forum regard it as a good buy. Thanks in advance for your comments Regards Dave

Does anybody know why this is so, as the W 4144 seems to be quieter, as well as having superior features. The only thing that makes me hesitate to buy it is that it is cheaper than the W 3740, suggesting that there are some drawbacks. Be grateful for any advice on this. Plenty of people seem to rate the W 3740 highly.

For those who have registered for the FREE Miele 10 year warranty, (currently underwritten by Domestic & General Services Ltd) do you get any confirmation that they have processed it? It would be helpful if you state which approximate year you registered (so I can tell if it was 9 years ago or 1 year ago) I'm about to send it off via a recordable/trackable method, and was wondering if you get some sort of paperwork back, perhaps a simple welcome and policy booklet?
