I recently moved into a new house. The washing machine has loads of buttons and wash settings on it, but there is absolutely no indication of what the settings and symbols mean, like temperature, spin, etc. The instruction manual is lost.

I've written an article about the pros and cons of renting a washing machine or any other household appliance. Apart from the fact it may cost a lot more to rent in the long run (as renting anything usually does) I think these days it might be an option for some. Many modern washing machines are pretty rubbish and don't last very long these days. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility for renting to end up no more expensive for some if they are always buying new ones and having them not last very long - especially if they always take out extended warranties too. I have a company who advertise appliance rental services whom I link to in the article, but the article…

This forum is to discuss any general washing machine subjects not covered elsewhere on the Washerhelp forums. If the topic IS covered elsewhere but that forum is locked it's because those questions can't be posted unless the forum becomes unlocked. It can't be used for specific how can I fix this fault repair help, or - these are the symptoms what is wrong? questions. However there is a new forum called Community washing machine repair questions where hopefully people can help each other out with repair issues and I will try whenever possible to help. Here is some repair advice already available on Washerhelp, which may actually answer your repair question - Full list …

hi there found this site through money saving expert forums. my almost 10 year old creda tumble dryer finally "died" on saturday. girlfriend reported the drum wasn't spinning. took the lid off, and the belt inside had snapped. bought a new one, fitted it (how difficult was that? so many screws and no indication of exactly the best way to get inside.). anyway, new belt in place, but the drum wasn't sitting properly. then i found the cause of the belt snapping. the rear of the drum has a rod sticking out that goes through the back of the unit, through a rubber gromit and washer on the other side. this had worn down completely and had finally snapped (the bit that came off…

Hi all! my 4 month old washing machine has suddenly started leaving black marks (like attached) all over my white bed linen . after the first experience of this, I ran the machine on the hottest wash with nothing in it. Then I put some hotpoint cleaning detergent in and ran it on the 60 wash (as instructions recommend). I then washed some white clothes in the machine and no marks were left, nor were they left on my colour wash.. a week later and I have washed my other white bed linen and the same marks have been left! Called zanussi who suggested either a lighter load or heavier load to test it before sending an engineer out (as if they find nothing wrong I…

Who could to help me deciding the next question? I have only two days to replace a old washing machine. I am considering two models: Miele WKF 120 CHROMEEDITION and LG F1495 BDS. I tested them. The machines washed the same things by a powder of the same quantity and quality with similar programs and options. I cannot say that Miele WKF 120 CHROMEEDITION washes better then LG F1495BDS. Miele WKF 120 CHROMEEDITION has the best functional in compare with LG. But Miele washing machines have the problem of imbalance during intermediate spinning of two towels (The washing machine was not able to do an intermediate spinning rather often. The weight was a little more 1 кг of dry…

Hi, I need to buy a new washing machine. I know Which guides are normally on point and so would like to know what the top rated machine is according to the consumers bible(!). Should I be looking at a particular brand perhaps or is Hotpoint as good as Bosch?

My washing machine is currently upstairs (no room in kitchen downstairs). The whole house shakes when it is on the spin cycle (I've tried those anti-vibration things but they don't seem to work) and I'm always really worried it will leak into the room downstairs. I've got to buy a new washing machine so what would you recommend as the best bet in terms of quietness and least flood risk? is there anything else I chould do to reduce the shaking and risk of flooding? quietest

Hi, I am looking at buying a top loader 7kg AEG L74272TL1. It specifies a Quick Intensive programme but the user manual does not say how long it is. Also, it has Shortened Duration and Extra Quick options (one press or 2 on a button) but again does not say by how much it shortens the programme. Can anybody help me with this info? Thanks, Caroline

Hi there, first post here! I've just received my new AEG Okomix washing machine, model L79485FL. Given the low quantity of water used by washers these days I thought a jet of water from the top would help keeping the laundry more soaked. I have a question. The jet of water is not running all the time - it escapes me why but apparently that is normal. However, even when the jet is not running I can hear a humming noise which is clearly a pump running and I cannot understand what is that for! Okomix claims to mix the detergent better than other washers - to me it's a gimmick as I reckon a drum spinning in the water should be more than enough to dissolve the d…

I have a brand new washing machine and i want to keep it clean and running as efficiently as possible, I am going to only use Ariel Bio Powder with Actilift as it seems to get very good reviews, it`s not cheap i bought some today, a fifty wash at lidl is £9.99 for a 42 wash, at Morrisons it`s £12.49 for a fifty and at Asda it`s only £8.00 for a fifty so guess where i bought it from After how many washes should you do a service wash to clean the inside of your washing machine, most of the information i have read say every month, but should it not depend on how many washes you do a week and how hard your water is. I only do one wash a week and my water is soft, so a ma…

We have recently bought a Bosch Serie 6 (WAT28460GB/7) washing machine (to replace another Bosch machine). We have found that, unlike the old Bosch, there is no "anti-crease" or "anti-tangle" at the very end of the cotton and easy care programmes (By this, I mean that the drum does not do a couple of slow turns in each direction to untangle the wet washing). We have not yet used all the available programmes so we do not know whether it works on any other, except the "rinse and spin" where it does. I call Bosch Customer Services who told me that it should do the few extra revolutions on all programmes except wool and that we should call out a technician. As this feature…

I have just moved into a new home, where the old type cold fill pipe is in situ, and due to the awkward distance, I would like to utilise the old pipe, and join to the modern fitting behind the washing machine. The fitting has a sort of water container that I assume is to help prevent leaks or something. Is there any way I can do this, what fittings would I need ? Photos aren't brilliant sorry. Thanks.

The site is obviously more focused on electrical issues and fires than overflowing and flooding, but I was hoping for some help. I'm replacing a 20-year-old Miele dishwasher with an aqua stop mechanism by a Whirlpool WFC 3C26 P (virtually new, a gift) that has no aqua stop device. Should I simply replace the intake hose by one with an aqua stop or similar device? (There's no feedback; it operates by closing when water flows in without meeting any resistance.) I contacted Whirlpool customer service in France and asked for suggestions; they sent me the commercial spec sheet but didn't answer the question. This is more of an issue in France, where incoming water pressu…

My trusty Siemens washing machine has given up the ghost after 9 1/2 years service- it still looks as good as new but won't even turn on and I have washing stuck in the drum. As it will cost over £100 to get it fixed - callout alone is £95- I am looking at getting a new machine. I want a long warranty , it least 5 years but I am 9 years behind the times as far as washing machine technology is concerned so it's all a bit confusing. I have seen Aeg machines that offer a 5 year warranty but my new build house is equipped with Aeg fridge, freezer and dishwasher and to be honest I am no impressed with the quality. All the drawers in the freezer have broken as has the door tray…

The slower your washing machine spins the better. It will be cheaper to buy, quieter, should be more reliable and should last longer. However, it's not much use if the laundry is dripping wet so there has to be a certain spin speed that gives optimum results. Washing manufacturers wont tell us what the optimum spin speed is because they charge extra for spin speed and the faster they spin the more they can charge. What are your thoughts and experiences on the best spin speed for a washing machine? Please read the full topic before discussing - washing machine spin speeds

Hi. I bought some Ariel powder and according to the box dosing guide for me it`s normal wash and soft water, so the does is 95ml , my drum is 8kg so add an extra 40ml = 135ml Now the Ariel website recommends 195ml , the website is buggy as hell and keeps crashing in firefox and IE 9.0 So which is right as i don't want to use to much powder and waste money. Thanks John. http://www.ariel.co.uk/Products/DosingGuide.aspx

Hi, I need to buy a new washing machine and unfortunately it's going to have to be the cheapest possible. I've narrowed it down to a Beko or an Indesit. Are either of these more reliable than the other? Or is it six & two threes? I know neither will be high quality but I wondered if either is known for particularly good or bad reliability? Many thanks in advance for any help you can give. Best wishes Wayne

Hi Have just bought a Bego WMB81442L Washer and can't find out how to set the Rinse Hold facility. Might be being stupid but I can see in the instruction manual how to turn the facility off but not set it at the start. If anyone out there has a Beko with this facility on it, I would be pleased to hear from you before I pull my hair out in frustration Kind regards

Hi Andy . I think you said on occasion before that you never really got into repairing Tumble Dryers (didn't you?) and i know this is just a washing machine forum but I just wanted to get your angle on this. I have tested our new Beko Tumble dryer with a multimeter and the cabinet is earthed , which is good but I checked the drum itself (which is metal) and that isnt earthed. - well this would explain why the odd few times i have been getting a static electrical shock when removing dried items from the drum , especially if in with the drying there are synthetic items. apart from the aspect of getting static shocks, how safe are these tumble dryers that there is a …
