Door opens nice and wide but not all the way back flat

The door on the EWN 14991 W opens wide although some washing machines now open all the way back.

The large 8Kg drum capacity allows more economical washing if you have a lot of washing to do, or it allows you to wash very large quilts ( How much washing can you fit into an 8Kg drum? )

This micro switch (above) is designed to notify the programme control in the event of a water leak. The base is sealed off so that any water leak will be caught instead of running directly onto the floor as in the past. If the leak generates enough water the polystyrene pad underneath should float up and operate the micro switch.

When this happens the programme will usually abort and produce an error code after operating the water pump to drain the water away. This system is used on most dishwashers and is fitted to more higher spec washing machines.

The pump filter is low down as with most washing machine pump filters ( apart from the Miele pump filter ) which means only a shallow container can be placed underneath for draining. This filter is so stiff that you can't open it without pliers. This could be inconvenient if you don't have a pair of pliers handy. However, this also means no child could open it during a wash, which is admittedly a good thing.
