On the left, a double duvet is happily being washed in the Dyson CR01 fitted with a 7Kg drum. On the right, the same duvet is forced as far as it will go into a normal washing machine with just a 5Kg drum.
Since writing this article I've tested another 7Kg drum washing machine that is no where near as big as the Dyson 7 Kg drum machine and a king sized quilt would not fit inside. This has led me to realise that different manufacturers use different methods of measuring their drum capacity and some are definitely bigger than others claiming to be the same size. Therefore, as the Dyson is no longer available there is a fair chance that some other 7Kg drum capacity washing machines are not as spacious as the Dyson 7Kg machine.
I remember a contact at Miele saying their 6Kg drum is "true" 6Kg capacity and that some other manufacturer's 6Kg drums are not as big. I can now see that this is true. If washing a large king sized quilt is important I would recommend looking at an 8Kg drum instead.
