The door, hinge and catch are all made from quality metal. They are seriously strong compared to an average washing machine. Many common brands like Hotpoint, Indesit and Hoover etc. sell thousands of door parts because they commonly break. I've repaired many hundreds of washing machines where the doors have completely dropped off. This will not happen with a Miele washing machine. Check out the Miele door impact test showing the door being slammed shut 60,000 times
