Domestic & General are, "the UK's leading warranty and repair specialist with over 5 million customers nationwide". They have a unique appliance repair scheme, which combines their warranty services with almost 3000 appliance manufacturer's repair engineers.
Large companies offering organised repair services uk-wide are becoming more common and usually use a network of local independent engineers or franchised engineers working for the work provider, but here the engineers will be the same engineers that look after the appliance whilst under guarantee provided by the manufacturer.
There are pros and cons for the different types of engineer, but Repair and Protect is unique in that they cover the entire appliance for 12 months after carrying out your repair. If a subsequent fault develops within this time they will either repair it again or if they can't they will replace your appliance with a new one. You should read the terms & conditions though as some faults (such as user faults) will not be covered during this extra cover period.
This combined repair and 12 month warranty will clearly cost more, and won't appeal to everyone, but there will be a lot of people attracted to the security of a fixed price, with cover for all the appliance over the following 12 months and the ability to pay in monthly instalments.
