  1. Thanks for the reply, just had a quick look in your where to get parts from and I can get one for £16, so I'm thinking it may be quicker just to get one. The only thing that I believe could have caused it are the metal buttons on a pair of jeans, but its something I've never heard of it happening. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say - hopefully they can give me an idea if I'll be covered before they come out then I can make up my mind on to buy the glass and fix myself or get them to do it. If I do go the route of buying the glass myself would I need to get a new seal or something as well?
  2. Last night my partner and I were watching tv when we heard a massive bang, we went into the kitchen to see the washing machine was in its spin cycle and the door glass was cracked straight down the middle with smaller cracks coming off the main one. We stopped the wash and I carefully opened the door to see on the edge of the slant of glass just before it goes flat a chip of glass missing and the crack seems to have started from there. The worry I have now is how did this happen and will it be covered by the warrantee? The machine is just over 5 months old. I've left all the clothes in there as they are - all that’s in there is a towel few pairs of trousers and underwear not overloaded or anything. I haven't phoned up John Lewis yet as its Sunday and the bank holiday tomorrow so a bit of a pain when we need clothes for next week! The situation I don't want is for them to come out say its not covered charge me 60 quid for the visit, then charge me for a new door and however long it takes to replace as I've had them out before to have a look at it when it was making a scraping noise. Luckily that was covered as originally the repair guy thought it was a bra wire that had gone under the drum but it was a loose fitting inside somewhere, but he said it would've been around £60 otherwise just to remove it! If it is unlikely to be covered is it possible to buy a replacement door and how much are they likely to be? Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place!
  3. Well we got our John Lewis washing machine last week. As I was unpacking it I noticed that the plastic that runs around the top of the machine was cracked. We phoned up John Lewis and they said the best they could do was replace the machine in 14 days time, which I said was a joke as how are we meant to survive without one for that time! In the end they refunded us £50. I have no complaint over the washing machine - its great, but John Lewis themselves were finding it hard to see my point that yes the machine worked fine but a brand new item shouldn't be damaged.
  4. Hi, Before I found this site I was all set to go out and buy a hotpoint washing machine, but now I've had second thoughts and am now looking at other brands. Originally I was going to buy from John Lewis anyway as they always have great warranty and when I was last there I saw they had their own range but didn't think much of them as own brand stuff from other places usally ends up in a disapointment! The washing machine I was going to buy was the Hotpoint Aqualtis AQXXF149PM. Since Reading your review on the Zanussi ZWF1221W (which is now only £199!) I've been tempted to get a Zanussi ZWF1431. First because I have got around £350 to spend, secondly it seems quite good with power and water. But to make things more confusing I saw your review on John Lewis which says there are made by Zanussi and indeed there is a John Lewis one there for the same price as the Zanussi but I don't think they are based on the same machine as the dimensions are different. The Zanussi looks to be a newer model in the range as it is the only one there with different dimensions. The hotpoint looks like a no no as it is the biggest, uses the most water and electric and I can't work out how it has an A+ energy rating when washers using less of everything don't get one! There is the AEG that I have included but I don't know much about them, so the main two are the John Lewis and the Zanussi and I can't pick. What are your recommendations on the above or is there a better one in this price range? Thanks for any help!
