raf Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Our Indesit W123 blew up last night. There was a massive bang and then a burning smell. It does not turn on now and I presume it is dead. We had the machine for 5 years and it has been okay, except the odd programme clock spining round continously. I came across the Haier C1460 which Comet are knocking out at £199 in sale. Anyone got one or know of them? There is no reviews on the web. Any help or advice will be much appreciated.
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp Posted August 3, 2007 Root Admin Posted August 3, 2007 A search on Google reveals only foreign websites. They are made in China and exclusive to Comet. They are extreme budget washing machines. The kind I hate. Chances are they will be difficult to get parts for and few people will get them repaired because they simply cost too little to buy and too much to repair. Recommended only for people who refuse to spend proper money on a washing machine. (related Whitegoodshelp link: washing machine buying advice) Need a repair or spare parts? We have gone for a Hotpoint Aqualtis 1400 which we were able to get a good price on. I hope they are reliable as they are fairly new on the market.

Hotpoint are currently near the bottom of the latest Which? reliability tables. However, at least it's a known brand. There are far too many brands of washing machines in the UK already which is one of the reasons why they are so cheap. Cheap is good but not when reliability and longevity is so adversely affected that they often work out more expensive in the long run.
