Hotpoint Wd420 Start/cancel

My washing machine starts when I press the start button. When I try to cancel a programme, the lights all flicker to a preiod of time and it refuses to cancel. Since it does start, would you consider this a problem with the front control panel or a communication problem with the rear PCB? Unsure which to change first.
Thanks.

If you have always used it without problem but now it won't work it's a very strange fault, I wouldn't think it worth all the expense to fix if it's only the cancel that's playing up.

"Could it just be the actual cancel button that's dodgy? Never heard of a faulty pcb that works perfect apart from won't cancel
The cancel button is the start button, so if the start button works?? ...
In that case maybe not."
The main pcb presumably monitors the start/cancel button to see if it is ever held in longer than the required period to instigate a cancel. Presumably it is recognising the cancel instruction because it flashes all the lights but I don't know why it would not then cancel the programme if everything on the machine is working OK. I would have to guess like you that it's a fault on the pcb but it's quite strange. I can't guarantee it would cure it and they are usually pretty expensive with no guarantee unless fitted by an engineer.
I would try to get it checked at somewhere like QER
